First, thank you for getting this far. This will be quick and easy. My goal for you is that by the time you finish reading this you will experience a rush of endorphins coursing through your body. You will be able to pat yourself on the back and say "nicely done, (insert your name here)". so let's jump right in . . .
(Oh, one other quick thing, If you have an extra 1 minute and 25 seconds watch the awesome video to the right.)
I love the YMCA. You should too, here’s why . . .
#1 (and this is my favorite) at the Carl Sanders Buckhead Y, we have an incredible after-school program for students from Bolton Academy, Scott Elementary and Woodson Park. And yes, these schools are right in our neighborhood. It is amazing. More than 100 (yes, I said 1-0-0) kids show up after school Monday through Thursday (on the Y's bus -paid for with your donations) to get tutored, finish their homework, participate in art classes, swim lessons, play in the gym or outside and then go home as their parents are getting home from work. These kids are smart (I know because I hang out with them most Mondays) but they weren't born into a family like yours. If not for the YMCA's after-school program, they wouldn't have the opportunities your kids have. Your donation will make a profound difference in their lives.
#2. The YMCA and I share a common love for kid's sports. (Come on, you know you do, too.) So many of life's great lessons are learned playing team sports. There are the obvious ones: sportsmanship, conditioning, motor skills; however, those are secondary to the really important ones like being part of something bigger than yourself - a team. That's the good stuff. Oh, and by the way, at the Y, one out of every 4 kids is on scholarship . . . but you'll never know which ones . . . and that's how it should be. That's what your donation does.
OK. One last one (but there are others), adapted sports. "What's that you say?" Well, I don't care how jaded you are, come to a wheelchair basketball game at the Y and I guarantee you will want to stand up and cheer? It's awesome. You don't get that at Lifetime Fitness, my friend. Those special chairs (and the coaching and court time) costs money. It doesn't come from the YMCA membership dues, it comes from The Why It Matters Annual Fund campaign. It comes from you.
Well, there you have it. Help make a real difference. It's time to click the DONATE NOW button directly below the video and give . . . a lot. I thank you. The kids thank you. Your conscience thanks you. Now doesn’t that feel good?
