YMCA Camp High Harbour has been a special place to thousands of campers for over 30 years. We believe that all people, especially children, should have the opportunity to gain independence, create memories and build friendships. And there is no better place for kids to learn life skills in an encouraging, positive and fun environment than at camp.
As camp continues to grow and impact more young people, we need your help. 1 out of every 4 kids need financial assistance to make their dream of attending summer camp come true. With the generosity of many, we are seeking to serve over 721 children through our annual campaign who otherwise do not have the financial resources to attend a YMCA summer camp. As a charitable nonprofit, the Y relies on donations from people like you and me. Your gift, at any level, will help to ensure that all children have the opportunity to attend summer camp.
I have seen, first-hand, the benefits of Camp High Harbour in my own children. My three children have attended camp for the last six years, and my oldest son has entered the leadership program which is providing him with life-long interpersonal skills and a desire to serve others and mentor young campers. We plan our summers around our camp sessions--a few weeks each summer that our kids leave their phones and iPads at home, and re-unite in person with friends from other places. The weeks before are filled with talk about which "skills" they'll sign up for and who their counselors will be. They return from camp signing songs we've never heard, laughing about jokes we won't understand and reliving every detail. It is an opportunity that cannot be replicated in any other setting, and I would love to give every child that opporunity to build the independence and confidence that comes from time away from home in the presence of enthusiastic peer mentors. It is an opportunity to create lifelong memories unplugged from the day-to-day world they live in.
