My name is Jordan Hayes, and welcome to my Y Champions page. I am a 10th grade Pre-IB student at Druid Hills High School.
Ever since I was little, my family and I have been members of the YMCA family. The Y has given me and my family so many opportunities and great memories that we will cherish forever. As members of my local YMCA, my family and I have participated in a variety of health programs and community activities. I have gained so much from being apart of the YMCA, such as responsibility, leadership, respect, and even gained valuable friendships along the way.
In the summer of 2018, I had the privilege of working as an Assistant Camp Counselor, at my local Y. This was significant to me because I was given the opportunity to be an Assistant Counselor to campers, as I was once a young camper myself at the Y. Working there has allowed me to show my leadership strengths as well as a keen ability to work with children.
Currently, I am also a part of the Y’s teen leadership program called the Academy of Character and Excellence (A.C.E), which was how I learned about the YMCA Global Leadership Service Program. I applied for this program because I wanted to learn and experience other cultures, their way of life, and to make an impact in the lives of others in anyway possible. I have been selected by the program to go to the Republic of Georgia. During this trip, I will teach and train young camp counselors to make a difference and impact other young lives. My plan is to be an ambassador of friendship and goodwill to the people of the Republic of Georgia.
With your help, I can achieve this goal, and maybe you too could change someone’s life in the press of a button.
