The YMCA of Metro Atlanta makes a significant difference in the lives of 250,000 individuals in our communities, every day. That’s why we are proud to come together as a team to support the YMCA.

So much more than a gym and a great place to swim, the Y develops vital programs and services for ALL people in Metro Atlanta to reach their full potential. Today, 1 in 4 children, teens, and families need financial assistance to be a part of the Y. As a charitable nonprofit, the Y relies on donations from people like you and me.

As a small business owner, I am constantly asked for donations for schools, charities, causes and families all around our community. I am always happy to donate or give and have rarely said no to a cause. This time around, it's me asking for money or donations to benefit the greater good of a charity that is near and dear to my heart, The Robert F Wharton Scholarship Fund at The Metro Atlanta YMCA. What you may not know about me is that I lost my brother to a tragic car accident in 2003. Robert was one of my best friends and one of those people that I have to share my "best friend" with 3 other siblings and tons of friends because he was a true friend to a lot of people. His contagious smile was a real thing and his candid sense of humor was a constant joy and belly laugh in my life. Robert had a passion for people and he loved sports, the YMCA and Lake Burton's YMCA Camp High Harbour.

After his passing in 2003, my sister and I created The Robert F Wharton Foundation and The Players Ball Annual Basketball Tournament in his memory raising over $30,000 in 5 years for academic and athletic scholarships in his name. Since the dissolution of The Robert F Wharton Foundation, we rolled one 501 (c) 3 into another, The Metro Atlanta YMCA. Each year, the YMCA gives two scholarships in Robert's memory to two amazing high school students towards their college education based on their exemplary efforts academically, athletically or in the arts, in addition to community service. As I sat at The YMCA dinner this year, I realized that I, too, can make a difference at The YMCA with your help!

Each day, The Y works to ensure our community has the support it needs to be its best. We often sit in the Carl Sanders Y and think how nice it is and what a great place to work out, play sports or sit nby the pool. What you don't realize is how many volunteers and donations that it takes to make that possible or how many scholarships and volunteer hours that each YMCA gives our community. It's time to make a true difference! I’m proud to be a Y Champion to help give all kids, teens, and families access and opportunity to be a part of the Y – regardless of their ability to pay. I am asking you to join me in my efforts to give all people in our community a chance to reach their full potential at the Y.

For more than 160 years, the Y has worked to ensure local kids and teens have the help they need to prepare for kindergarten, stay on-track in school, grow as leaders, and learn how to contribute to a stronger community. Through wellness and hunger relief programs, the Y helps people of all ages stay active and healthy. But, the Y needs your support of the WHY IT MATTERS Annual Giving Campaign to make this possible.

100% of every dollar donated has a lasting impact on the people of metro Atlanta by ensuring the Y’s doors are open to all – regardless of financial ability.

Please join me and support the Y by making a donation today. Your gift will truly make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need the Y most. Thank you for your continued love, support and gifts for a community of people that trule matter! XO, Sarah
