As I think of something to explain the importance of why donations to our three initiatives is so important and truly needed all I can do is explain my personal life story and hope that it makes sense. My wife and I have a house full of children with a 12, 14, and 16 year old that we took in to protect them and provide them with a safe place to stay. We hopefully are getting to the final adoption date it has been a long and tiring process but one that we felt must happen in order to take care of our children. When our children (yes they are ours and will always be) first came they hid food just to eat, slept in a closet together because they were scared who would be coming in and why, and never went to school. Things have changed and they are much better off and feel safe, learn and have a chance of a better life than before they came to us.
The children that I deal with more directly is the After School Enrichment Program (ASE) and the Access for All camps and programs. I see firsthand the skills that these children get to harness and the ability to do homework. They have a safe environment to play sports, get tutoring help, provided meals so they do not go hungry, and have a better chance at a future.
Life is not easy and the blessings that we have are through hard work and a support system designed to cultivate our growth. This program is vital for these children to have a safe environment for them to grow and provide them with tools to help with their success as they get older. I hope you will look at your life and look at the support system that you had and think of what things could have been like without that support system. These kids are afforded that support system with our help. No matter the size of the donation (whether it be monetary or volunteer) it goes a long way in providing the support system they need to grow.
Each day, the Y works to ensure our community has the support it needs to be its best. I’m proud to be a Y Champion to help give all kids, teens, and families access and opportunity to be a part of the Y – regardless of ability to pay. I am asking you to join me in my efforts to give all people in our community a chance to reach their full potential at the Y.
The Y has worked to ensure local kids and teens have the help they need to prepare for kindergarten, stay on-track in school, grow as leaders, and learn how to contribute to a stronger community. Through wellness and hunger relief programs, the Y helps people of all ages stay active and healthy. But, the Y needs your support of the WHY IT MATTERS Annual Giving Campaign to make this possible.
100% of every dollar donated has a lasting impact on the people of metro Atlanta by ensuring the Y’s doors are open to all – regardless of financial ability.
Please join me and support the Y by making a donation today. Your gift will truly make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need the Y most.
