My name is Kendra Fuentes. My first experience at the Y was in 1998 when I joined the swim team. From my four years of involvment on the team, I learned about the Leaders Club. The Leaders Club is a mission based volunteer teen program that provides our branch of the YMCA with over 8,000 hours of service annually. I became heavily involved in Leaders Club during my high school years and eventually served at president of the club my senior year. That year I was elected as the Volunteer of the Year for our branch.
Since graduating from college, I feel as though it is my duty to give to young teens what the YMCA once gave to me. I want to instill confidence, ambition and teach these teens that they have so much potential ahead of them.
I have been a volunteer advisor for the Leaders Club for the past 3 years. In January of 2016, I was hired on as the full-time teen director here at our branch. I am a direct product of what the Y can provide for its youth.
The Leaders Club would not be possible without donations from the annual Y It Matters Campaign. Roughly 75% of everything we get to particpate in is funded through the campaign every year. This year we have been challenged to raise $15,000! Please help me in supporting these kids on their journey of growth!!
