Friends and Family,
I attended a kick-off annual campaign event for the Summit Family YMCA last week. Please endulge me and let me tell you about our special guests that evening.
First guest was Gina, a lady in her 60s who was over 400 lbs when she joined the YMCA. She didn't share her current weight but I believe she's lost well over 100 lbs and isn't finished. If you have ever visited or been a member of the YMCA you will immediately realize it is NOT your typical swim and gym. The YMCA is on a mission to serve others. Gina shared about always being greeted by the YMCA staff by name. She shared about everyone taking an interest in her struggles and her triumphs. The staff took a genuine interest in not only her but her family, her hobbies, her likes and dislikes...once again NOT a typical swim and gym. Gina truly feels she is part of the Y family.
Second guest was a mother of a precious 2 yr old named Georgia. Georgia was born with Full Trisomy and was told she wouldn't live to see her 1 yr old birthday. Georgia has to endure several kinds of therapy all of which are very painful, EXCEPT the aquatic therapy the YMCA provides, the only one Georgia looks forward to and enjoys. Once again an example of NOT your typical swim and gym. The mother said the YMCA has literally changed her daughter's and family's life and is forever grateful.
The YMCA and I share a common love for kids. So many of life's great lessons are learned playing team sports. There are the obvious ones: sportsmanship, conditioning, motor skills; however, those are secondary to the really important ones like being part of something bigger than yourself - a team, winning gracefully, losing gracefully, never quitting, putting forth ALL of your effort and helping teammates learn new skills. That's the good stuff. That's our LEGACY! Oh, and by the way, at the YMCA, one out of every 4 kids is on scholarship . . . but you'll never know which one . . . and that's how it should be. That's what your donation does.
The Summit Family YMCA also has an incredible after-school program for students and others. It is amazing. Kids show up after school Monday through Thursday to get tutored, finish their homework, participate in art classes, play in the gym or outside and then go home as their parents are getting home from work. These kids are smart but they weren't born into a family like yours. If not for the YMCA's after-school program, these kid's wouldn't have the opportunities your kids have. Your donation will make a profound difference in their lives.
For adults we offer not only group exercise classes, swim, tennis, but also weight loss mgmt classes, personal coaching, diabetes prevention, and even specialized classes for Parkinson's patients.
The event this past week reminded me once again of why I love the YMCA. i could go on and on but know your time is precious. If you have a beating heart and blood running through your veins how can you not be chomping at the bit right now to GIVE. Please be a part of something bigger, and don't let this opportunity pass you...
Help make a real difference and click the DONATE NOW button directly under my picture and give. I thank you, the kids thank you, your conscience thanks you. Now don't you feel better...
Thank you for your support and God Bless!
