YMCA Camp High Harbour has been an important part of my life since I was 10 years old. I still remember how scary it was for me and my friends that first time we arrived since it was my first time staying a week away from my parents. But, that timidness went away almost instantly because of my counselors. They made camp feel like my 2nd home that week and were there for me whenever i needed them. I didnt realize at the time all they were doing for me but over the next 5 years, I grew to appreciate and understand how they were trying to give the best week possible to each camper. These counselors inspired me to want to give back and give campers their best week possible like my counselors did for me. This is why in 2015 I signed up for an interview to join the Advanced Leadership Academy which was the start of my journey to becoming a counselor.
From my time as a camper to my time as a counselor, camp has greatly impacted my life. Over the last 7 years it has helped mold me into who I am today. Through camp I have developed leadership skills, confidence, and long lasting friendships. Camp has instilled these principles in me whcih i will keep as my life continues to progress.
Today I am blessed to continue serving Camp High Harbour as an Assistant Counselor at lake Allatoona. As camp continues to grow and impact more young people, we need help. With the generosity of many, we are seeking to send 721 children this year who otherwise do not have the financial resources to come to camp. As a charitable non-profit, the Y relies on donations from people to believe in our mission.
Will you please consider joining me and the hundreds of others whose support helps to make the dream of camp for kids a reality? Your gift at any level greatly impacts the lives of all who enter the camp gates. If we help send just one more child to camp,we have made a difference for that child!
