The Y is a wonderful place to visit any day of the week. In the time I have been a member of the Y, the Y has really shown me why the Y's name is the Family YMCA. I truly feel as if I am family when I walk through the glass doors of any YMCA. Warm welcome's greet me with every visit and I know I can call the YMCA my second home. I can also credit the YMCA for encouraging my love to serve in my community.
Throughout my time being with the YMCA, I have grown into a better person socially. When I was 15, I volunteered one summer at the YMCA' s summer camp and that changed everything about me. I became more social by talking and bonding with the other volunteer workers and staff. I also became more independent as I learned to take leadership in my volunteer position. My hard work never went unnoticed. Eventually, the Y hired me as a camp runner. Since then, my brother Justin and I have been the leaders of the camp runner position at the Wade Walker YMCA. By doing this, I learned to work with different types of people from different backgrounds and that gave me an important tool that I can use for the rest of my life.
With your help, I intend to partner with the YMCA of South Africa this summer to serve the children and families of a deserving community. Please help me raise $3,000 for my goal to serve abroad. During my service, I will utilize my leadership and service skills, while learning new ones, and leave a lasting impact on the lives of the South African community. Thank you for your help!
