Good Morning Friends! My kids have attended YMCA Camp High Harbour for 9 years now as campers and staff members, and I could go on and on about the wonderful experiences they've had and all the reasons we've supported their mission over the years. Today, however, they're launching their Annual Day of Giving with a more important and timely mission. If you are looking for a way to provide immediate assistance to families in need of food security, this is a wonderful opportunity.
YMCA Camp High Harbour at Lake Burton has been blessed to be part of the Rabun County community and the city of Clayton for over 30 years. And like most communities, there is currently a great need for assistance. During this time of uncertainty and our Day of Giving, we are giving back to our home away from home.
The Northeast Georgia Food Bank, located in Clayton, is a non-profit organization that typically serves over 2,500 Rabun County families each month. With the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Food Bank is currently at a food distribution pace three times what they were just 30 days ago. And that number continues to increase.
As part of the efforts of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta and YMCA Camp High Harbour to serve our communities, we are utilizing our camp dining hall as a drop off location each week of over 24,000 pounds of food. The High Harbour staff then sort and assist in the distribution of the food to those in need.
